Property manager unlocked my door and came into my apartment while i was sleeping!
In my lease it states I must be provided with two days written notice for any repairs, inspections, etc. When I moved in my property manager told me this is how things are done for everything other than the first Thursday of each month. He pretty much told me he could walk in no matter what on that day. And he did. Is this legal?
I have a recording of the event. He beat on my door twice, unlocked it, came in (with another man) yelled "maintenance" to inspect and spray my apartment. I was asleep but the first knock woke me up, I pressed record on my phone (because of an incident previously where he made me feel uncomfortable and I wanted future things to be recorded) and when I walked out of my room they were both in my kitchen. This all happened and they were out the door within 5-6 minutes. I didn't even have time to get to the door he came inside so fast.
My concern: I'm a single mother of two, my youngest was home with me, I didnt have time to even walk to the door before he entered... I could have been in the shower or naked... It makes me so uncomfortable...
***The day previous the property manager asked to come in and talk to me about my companion animals, he told me I was allowed to have them, but after he let me know he asked for coffee and sat at my table and proceeded to have the most inappropriate conversation with me.
He asked how my boyfriend treats me and if he pleases me, if him and I liked anal, how I felt about masturbation....
"I notice how you like to make everyone happy and please everyone, I bet you're great in bed!"
I froze and and felt completely violated. I kept telling him my son was gonna be home from school hinting for him to leave... I felt paralyzed in that moment.. He eventually left and I broke down and couldnt stop shaking for a few hours.
(Fast forward to inspection day) I feel like him barging in my house was more personal trying to catch me unprepared. This guy has a key to my freaking apartment... Ive thought about putting a lock on the door, in this situation is that acceptable?
My landlords daughter lives above me, I asked for my landlords number but she refused and said she would have her call me but I never received a call. I'm not sure what rights i have at this point or if there is anything I can do..
Edit: The video I recorded was :54 seconds.. I started at about the second knock and they were walking out when I ended it. I don't feel it was really any "inspection" to be honest.
Edit: Thinking some more on it and in the video he says something like "I knew you were here so we stopped by" ... He knows my car and its always parked close to my side of the apartments... Why didn't he give me a chance to open the door?! Creep was trying to just hurry in the door.
