Hello and welcome to my blog, Author Interviews. My name is Fiona Mcvie.
Let’s get you introduced to everyone, shall we? Tell us your name. What is your age?
My name is Chris H. Stevenson (pen name, Christy J. Breedlove). I’m 67 years-old, officially retired, but writing full time.
Fiona: Where are you from?
I was born in Los Angeles and raised on the beaches of California, one of the original long-board surfers. I’ve lived in Arkansas, Las Vegas, and I’m currently living in Sylvania, Alabama—down in a holler.
Fiona: A little about yourself (ie, your education, family life, etc.).
I was originally born in California and then moved to Sylvania, Alabama in 2009. I currently live with my sister and her husband. My occupations have included newspaper editoreporter, amateur astronomer, federal police officer, Housecleaner and professional doll house and miniature builder. I’ve been writing off and on for 36 years, having officially published books beginning in 1988. Today I write in my favourite genre, Young Adult, but have published in multiple genres and categories. I was a finalist in the L. Ron. Hubbard Writers of the Future contest, and took the first place grand prize in a YA novel writing contest for The Girl They Sold to the Moon. I write the blog, Guerrilla Warfare for Writers (special weapons and tactics), hoping to inform and educate writers all over the world about the highpoints and pitfalls of publishing.
Fiona: Tell us your latest news.
I’ve just had a new YA fantasy release, Screamcatcher: Web World. It is book one of a trilogy. I once wondered what would happen to a very old dream catcher that was overloaded with dreams and nightmares. What if the nightmares were too sick or horrible to contain? What if the web strings could not hold anymore negative images? Would the dream catcher melt, burst, vanish, implode? Something would have to give, if too much evil was allowed to congregate in one spot. I found nothing on the Internet that offered a solution to this problem, and asked myself why hasn’t anybody used this? So I took it upon myself to answer such a nagging question. Like too much death on a battlefield could inundate the immediate area with lost and angry spirits, so could a dream catcher hold no more of its fill of sheer terror without somehow morphing or transforming. What would it be like to be caught up in another world inside the webs of a dream catcher, and how the heck would you ever get out?
Fiona: When and why did you begin writing?
I fondly remember picking up a copy of Twilight Zone magazine and reading a short story. I was so gobsmacked, totally taken in by the plot and characters, that I figured I could do that too. That was in 1986. I went on a quest to publish my own short stories in the small press, and one year later had success with selling about a dozen of them. That really opened things up, but my first real trade published book was a non-fiction guide about garage and yard sales. It did extremely well. My first published novel was in 2007.
Fiona: When did you first consider yourself a writer?
I can explain the events better: My early writing accomplishment were multiple hits within a few years: In my first year of writing back in 1987, I wrote three Sf short stories that were accepted by major slick magazines which qualified me for the Science Fiction Writers of America, and at the same time achieved a Finalist award in the L. Ron Hubbard Writers of the Future Contest. This recognition garnered me a top gun SF agent at the time, Richard Curtis Associates. My first novel went to John Badham (Director) and the Producers, the Cohen Brothers. Only an option, but an extreme honor. The writer who beat me out of contention for a feature movie, was Michael Crichton’s Jurassic Park. My book was called Dinothon.
A year after that I published two best-selling non-fiction books and landed on radio, TV, in every library in the U.S. and in hundreds of newspapers. For joy!
I have been trying to catch that lightning in a bottle ever since. My YA dystopian novel, The Girl They Sold to the Moon won the grand prize in a publisher’s YA novel writing contest, went to a small auction and got tagged for a film option. I was convinced I was a writer then.
Fiona: What inspired you to write your first book?
I was engrossed in yard sales, indoor swap meets and auctions. It was truly a mania back then. I had such success at it that my friend dared me to write a book about it. I did, and that became Garage Sale Mania, the first ever book on the subject.
Fiona: How did you come up with the title?
Now, as far as my most recent book, I derived the title Screamcatcher from the words dream catcher. It’s kind of a play on words, but it also hints at the plot. It’s the Screamcatcher series, with the sub-titles: Web World, Dream Chasers and The Shimmering Eye.
Fiona: Do you have a specific writing style? Is there anything about your style or genre that you find particularly challenging?
I admit that my writing style/voice was/is deliberate, and I emulated who I considered stylists: Poul Anderson, Virgin Planet, Peter Benchley, The Island and Jaws, Joseph Wambaugh, The Onion Field and Black Marble, Michael Crichton, Jurassic Park, Alan Dean Foster, Icerigger trilogy, and some Stephen King. Anne Rice impresses me with just about anything she has written. I think it’s the humour and irony that attracts me the most–and it’s all character related.
Fiona: How much of the book is realistic and are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?
If I have a book in a contemporary setting, I strive to make it as accurate as possible. The world has to obey our general laws of physics unless I have created something fantastical that requires alternate world-building. I do have hints of personality traits in my characters that are based on real people, but not all. I’ll mix it up, so I stay away from stereotypes and clichés.
Fiona: To craft your works, do you have to travel? Before or during the process?
No travel necessary. I can usually research exotic locations down to their exact, fine points. I try not to cheat, but if there is something I’m unaware of or do not know, I’ll avoid the nitpicking details of it, to stay on the safe side.
Fiona: Who designed the covers?
Caroline Andrus created the cover for Screamcatcher, and it’s a total mind-blower. I’m not just saying that. She has a saber-tooth cat clawing its way through a dream catcher, and the background is of the badlands of South Dakota. I’ve been told that the blurb, cover and title is an at-bat triple. Sales will eventually tell me if it is a homerun or not.
Fiona: Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
Aside from my theme that accentuates loyalty, survival and determination, I do have a very subtle, almost hidden message in the book. It’s gender related and really no one would ever suspect it, because it has nothing to do with the main female character. All I’ll say is, nice guys finish first and get the girl.
Fiona: Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest? Who is your favorite writer, and what is it about their work that really strikes you?
Neil Gaiman is new to me. I loved his Stardust, and I plan on reading a lot more of his work. He writers with strong visuals and senses, and I like that. Susanne Collins and her The Hunger Games really impressed me. She has a prequel coming out in May of next year.
Fiona: Outside of family members, name one entity that supported your commitment to become a published author.
Hands down, it’s my agent Sara Camilli. She has been through the thick and thin with me, always pushing me to strive and attain my goals. She is ultra-supportive of me, and quite concerned about my health and emotional state. She’s never given up on me and refuses to let me give up on myself.
Fiona: Do you see writing as a career?
Not in the sense that it supports me. It did support me for a very brief time but it is so difficult to keep up that kind of momentum. Becoming a writer is easy—staying one is hard.
Fiona: If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?
Now that I’ve had a few constructive comments, yes. I would have my major male character “alpha-up” just a bit. He’s a tad too nice or desperate for the affection from his soon-to-be girlfriend. I would also calm down a racy sex scene that the main characters witness. The MCs don’t resort to overt sex or anything, but they do witness something I should have toned down.
Fiona: Did you learn anything during the writing of your recent book?
I learned some really neat things about Indian lore and culture. I love that type of diversity in this book. My main female character is half-blood Chippewa. She is at odds with her true cultural history with that of a modern, progressive teenage girl.
Fiona: If your book was made into a film, who would you like to play the lead?
Without question, my lead character, Jory, is an absolute dead-ringer for Katniss Everdeen of The Hunger Games. So she would have to be a very young looking Jennifer Lawrence.
Fiona: Any advice for other writers?
Watch your spending on ads–they can be grossly ineffective. Use social media and generously interact with fellow writers and readers. Don’t abuse FB and Twitter solely for the purpose of “Buy My Book.” Join writing groups and learn from the pros. Ask politely for reviews–don’t pressure, harass or intimidate. Be creative. Target your genre readers. Offer incentives and freebies. Craft a newsletter and send it out bi-monthly. Don’t take critiques as personal attacks–learn from honest opinions. Don’t despair. Never give up. Revenge query.
Fiona: Anything specific you want to tell your readers?
Only to support your indie and small press trade authors. You’ll find some gems there that will delight and shock you. Support your local independent bookstores—they need the love—they spread enough of it for you—pay it forward to them.
Fiona: What book are you reading now?
I’m re-reading Close Encounters of the Third Kind. It’s a novelization, but I like the style and wonderment.
Fiona: Do you remember the first book you read?
It was very early on in school when I read The Yearling. That was the first “classic” that I read. My first science fiction novel was Virgin Planet by Poul Anderson. He became my pen pal and mentor.
Fiona: What makes you laugh/cry?
Bumping off a character in a book saddens me greatly, especially when I’m invested in that person. Great irony makes me bust the gut. Joseph Wambaugh and Peter Benchley are masters of it. Of course, the elder Benchley was a humorist!
Fiona: Is there one person, past or present, you would love to meet? Why?
I’d like to meet Stephen Spielberg. I’m as much of a kid at heart as he is and would love to discuss young adult characterization in book and movie plots with him.
Fiona: Do you have any hobbies?
I watch any documentary having to do with Bigfoot, UFOs, cryptozoology, palaeontology, astronomy, archaeology, airline flight, history, hauntings, the planets and the universe.
Fiona: What TV shows/films do you enjoy watching?
For TV it has to be non-fiction and associated with the core sciences—Nova, The History Channel, Hanger 18, Finding Bigfoot, Ancient Aliens, Animal Planet and other informative shows. Crypto-science is fine.
Fiona: Favorite foods, colors, music?
My favorite food is Chinese all the way! My color is ox blood. My favourite music is movie soundtracks from some of my most favourite SF and fantasy movies. I do like hard rock and roll, but I’ll relax with ABBA anytime.
Fiona: Imagine a future where you no longer write. What would you do?
I would tell stories in sign language and the spoken word.
Fiona: You only have 24 hours to live how would you spend that time?
I would write out a short synopsis of my history, seal it in a jar and bury it under a rock. Maybe somebody would find it and say, “This confirms it—these primitives were nuts.”
Fiona: What do you want written on your head stone?
He came, he saw, he tried to conquer.
Fiona: Do you have a blog or website readers can visit for updates, events and special offers?

Questions Answers
Time for a Dick Figures lase. Decided to change the modus operandi a bit. See it here. I think I am required to ask you a question. I lifted the music from your music video for "Bath Rhymes". Are you going to sue me? Dude! That is amazing! How did you do that? MIND = BLOWN.
Gracias. If you guys want it, just PM me a shipping address. We totally didn't answer your question I now realize. No, we will not sue you, we're glad you used it. You are awesome for doing that lase!
Is Red and Stacy still going out?, and why does Stacy have the only real name? They've never been officially dating, they hookin up. We're not entirely confident that either Red OR Stacy has enough attention span to think about it too clearly. And Stacy has the only real name because uh... uhhh....... a real name sounded sluttier than a color.
About how long does it take to make a single episode? We actually answered this one just a moment ago, so apologies for the copy paste! "We usually take 2 weeks per episode, including doing the voices, making the storyboards, cutting them together, animating them, doing sound and music, and wrapping it up all nicely for YouTube."
Hi, I'm a huge fan of DF. I always wondered if Red and Blue were based on your personalities (ie, Ed is Blue and Zack is Red.). Have your character traits at all influenced the behaviors or characters of Red or Blue? Thanks! The show is definitely based on our personalities: Zack is Blue, and Ed is Red. At first it was more of a buddy comedy about two best friends but, being friends ourselves, we naturally filled the characters with our likes, dislikes etc. The longer the show has gone on the more it has gotten exaggerated, and so now the characters have definitely been defining themselves just based on their own original personalities. "But I do own samurai swords." - Ed.
Can we see even more of lord tourettes, jason trollzor and stacey? i enjoy seeing them in dick figures. Absolutely. They will be making appearances throughout the rest of the series, and if Dick Figures The Movie happens, you can count on seeing them there as well!
Your videos are epic. My question: do you actually play an enjoy the video games that you constantly mock? Thanks in advance. P.S. could I possibly have your Internet autograph addressed to Zach? Thanks YES. We are avid gamers. Wii, Xbox, PS3, Steam, all of it. Of course we play all the big name franchises over the years that we've mocked (COD, Halo, L4D, Skyrim, Pokemon) but recently I think we were most impressed by the PS3 downloadable game Journey. It rocked. If you haven't played it. CHECK IT OUT, it's what heaven is like.
I completely agree, Journey is a masterpiece. Simple and amazing. Thanks for the response guys! YES! It is amazing. The soundtrack is hypnotic. The guy who created the game, Jenova (yes, named after the FF7 character), went to USC with us!
Hey guys im a true fan of Dick Figures, like literally i know everyline to all the episodes, and so are my friends and we love it and are very grateful for the show put out every other thursday always looking forward to them. but nevertheless my question is: From Red and Blues and also yourselfs pesrspective, Who would win in a battle between Spiderman and Batman and why??? thanks a lot of love. Thanks for watching the show! And everyone at the Dick Figures team has not a doubt in their minds... fuckin BATMAN!
Besides red and blue, where did the idea for the other characters come from? Most of the other characters kind of spawned by accident while we were writing the show. In fact, the 3rd character introduced in the show, The Raccoon, literally came from Zack saying randomly, drunk, at 11PM the night before the pilot episode was due, "A raccoon!" Ed laughed like an idiot and history was made. Lord Tourettes was the same way. Other characters, like Broseph, were recurring and eventually gained a name and a personality, while others like Pink and Stacy were planned to be included as the show went along.
Do you guys plan to do another batman & bloser? You heard it on Reddit first... YES.
What will happen if the Kick starter doesn't reach its goal? If we don't raise the full $250,000 on Kickstarter the project unfortunately will not go forward. Unlike IndieGoGo, where you can keep whatever amount you make, Kickstarter is all or nothing. So it is important to the project that we get the full amount!
You can also read more about it here... Link to www.kickstarter.com
I have been a fan from the start of the show. I will do all I can to spread the word and make sure you reach your goal. Thank you!!! We really appreciate it!
Sorry if this has already been mentioned before but how did you decide upon the $250,000 minimum? Would it really cost that much for it to be put together? How long do you think it will take to make the movie if you do reach the amount? Yes, the movie really does cost that much. A lot of nerd math and animation math went into that number. Animation is EXPENSIVE. The same 30 minute Simpsons episode would cost MILLIONS. PLUS part of that $250,000 goes towards making all the awesome prizes for our fans. We wanted to give you guys back as many cool prizes as possible. If we could make the movie for cheaper, we would.
What is the deal with the movie? Is it going to premier online? How much will it cost? How long is it going to be? The movie is Kickstarter exclusive. Anyone who pledges at least $15 will get a DRM free, HD download of the movie when it's completed in about six months. You'll also have access to the online making of (for backers only) which will chronicle the production of an animated feature film. No plans for distribution yet beyond Kickstarter and the movie's length is directly related to how much we raise (link at the top).
Unrelated question: How did Mondo Media pick you/how did you get Mondo Media to post your videos? We knew the guys over at Mondo Media through working at Six Point Harness (the animation studio where Dick Figures is produced) and Ed had the opportunity to pitch a show back in November 2010 and they thankfully picked it up. The (unaired) pilot then was much different than it is now... hopefully we can show it to you guys someday.
Why don't you have your own channel? Dick Figures is the only reason I'm subscribed to MondoMedia and I'm pretty sure that's the case for thousands of other Dick Figures fans. Anyway, big fan! Also, any plans for a tv show? Thank you for subbing to Mondo. We have our own subscriber list within Mondo, but we don't have our channel. Mondo Media is our distributor and have been a HUGE part of our success. They took a chance on our show when no one else would.
How exactly did you come up for the idea of DickFigures? Hey! We actually answered this just a moment ago, so apologies for the copy paste! ""The series itself came from a 2-day development period at Six Point Harness animation, where Dick Figures is created. Each artist had 2 days to come up with a show and pitch it to the studio. Since I've been into stick figures and animated stick culture since my middle school days (and they are easy to draw) I decided to just use that format as a sandbox for funny and stupid stuff to happen in. And Zack and I have fleshed it out from there."
I just wondered how/where did you learn to animate ? Or on larger question scale, what is your "professional cursus" ? Sorry for the bad english, I'm french. (Frogs... Yummee) Ed: I started animating as a hobby around 10 or 11 and have been doing it consistently ever since. I started animating in Flash in high school. It's been Flash-Stockholm syndrome ever since. Zack: I wish I could animate, I really do. I can't even draw. While Ed is animating (along with our other five animators) I'm usually editing or doing sound design. We both went to the University of Southern California for film production which is where we learned about bureaucracy.
You don't yet know the glory that is Shitty_Watercolour?! Bow, mortals. bow (seriously, badass.)
I have 2 questions If that is alright. Can you talk about your animation process in creating an episode? I feel that most people might not appreciate the time and effort your show takes to create, based on the fact that it is stick figures. Zack (Blue) Are you free for dinner Saturday night? If yes, where shall we eat and have sexy times after? There is a stigma against Flash animation and stick figure animation, but we're hoping we've taken both to another level. We animate using Flash CS3 (old skool) and do traditional keyframe animation on 1s and 2s (for all y'all animation nerds out there). We don't tween as much as you'd think. Most people think it's just Ed and I doing the animation, but the team is upwards of 10 (Ed, Zack, 2 storyboard artists, 5 animators, sound designer, composer and a producer).
What is the thinking process you guys have before an episode? Zack here: Ed and I get drunk and try to make each other laugh. Or sometimes we are sober and try to make each other laugh. Both with varying degrees of success. Usually we start with a VERY simple concept like: Blue is cooking dinner for Pink, Red shows up... how can Red ruin everything? From there, we just try to think of all the most terrible and funny things that could possibly happen. Slap on a dubstep soundtrack and we're done.
I love the show, I'm a big fan. How is it working for Mondo Media? Are they the ones that compensate you? Also, what is your favorite Mondo animation that isn't Dick Figures? Mondo has been phenomenal in helping us. They have been promoting us since day one and have always been there to help share the load of all the work that goes into the show's upkeep. We definitely owe them a lot. Our favorite Mondo show right now though is definitely Game Program Attack. Check that shit out, it's so awesome!
Whatever happened to the fat purple chick? I miss that running gag. You can actually see her in our latest episode "First Day of Cool." She is in the background while Lord Tourettes is talking to Blue, jumping rope, happy and skinny and full of youth and hope. We have an epic way of paying her character off, which we hope to reveal in the movie.
Would you (ed and zack), if i'd be an american and visited you, sign my ass if i asked you too? love dickfigures btw! greetz from the land of weed! Holland! WHAT UP HOLLAND! You bring the sharpie, we'll sign the ass. Keep it smokey over there!
Are you really making a Dick Figures movie? Will it be in separate videos or one continuous one episode? We are making a movie... DICK FIGURES: THE MOVIE! The amount of money we raise through our Kickstarter (Link to www.kickstarter.com will determine how long of a movie the fans get. $250,000 makes a 30 minute special. $500,000 makes a 60 minute movie. $700,00 makes a FEATURE LENGTH FILM! Beyond that... there are rumors of a Dick Figures videogame... We love making this show and have been blown away by the support we've gotten already. The movie will kick ass no matter what length.
What was your first animation, or first famous animation? Ed, "My first animation was filmed on the family camcorder and was a little guy who sits down on the toilet to take a crap, and then a monster eats him. My first famous one was The New Guy." Zack, "I used to do Indiana Jones meets Jurassic Park animations with a clay Indy + JP toys back in elementary school. First animation I ever did. It is also still my best :'( "
Big fan of Dick Figures. Id like to know how long it takes to produce an average skit (writing the script, voice acting, animation)? Also I have a feeling spoons will help you get money for the movie kickstarter. We release a new episode every two weeks, but it takes about 1 day to write, a few hours to record the voices, 3 days to storyboard, another 2 to edit, and the final week is for animation/music/sound and rendering... The show may be about stick figures, but damn does it take a lot of work.
plus, fan art is now a lot easier because even the most artistically challenged can draw Red and Blue. Haha EXACTLY!
How do you come up with the batshit insane stories? I always imagine you guys just getting drunk on Friday night and just randomly come up with stuff like "...AND THEN RED BARBECUES THE TIGER ON THE SUN!"... Boom, script. That's actually not too far off the mark. We write each season in a week or two before animation begins and every day for a week or two we usually walk down to the liquor store at the bottom of the street and pick up some beer to write with. I drink a little more than Zack does haha. It makes our livers hurt a little, but we laugh more so it's worth it. A lot of the time each episode will start with a simple situation (IE Blue is on a date...) and then just add in trouble from there (IE Red has a pet octopus). Boom, script.
So why is Racoon the only talking animal in the series? And the Butt Genie (who is a hamster)! There is no other answer than we thought it was really funny. It was just supposed to be a simple gag but then it never went away. People love the Raccoon, and so do we.
Hey guys, really hyped for the Dick Figures movie. I'm guessing the $700,000 goal for a full-length film is completely out of reach? : It's not out of reach at all! We've still got 39 days to go, and most Kickstarters don't reach their funding until the VERY END. We're still getting the word out there and are on a steady pace to fund at 200%. Anyway you can help spread the word, Reddit, Facebook, Twitter, etc helps us out! And helps get you a movie!
So is Red an alien since he came from space??? While he is not an alien, he is also not of this world. We'll have some mind-blowing explanations for you in the movie if the Kickstarter works, so stay tuned and keep your fingers crossed we raise that $250K!
Hoping you get there! Most of my friends have already pitched in and are trying to get their friends to do the same. Thank you so much! We really appreciate the support!
1.On average, how long does it take to create an entire episode? From the idea to the final product. We usually take 2 weeks per episode, including doing the voices, making the storyboards, cutting them together, animating them, doing sound and music, and wrapping it up all nicely for YouTube.
Where did you get the idea for the series? Ed, "The series itself came from a 2-day development period at Six Point Harness animation, where Dick Figures is created. Each artist had 2 days to come up with a show and pitch it to the studio. Since I've been into stick figures and animated stick culture since my middle school days (and they are easy to draw) I decided to just use that format as a sandbox for funny and stupid stuff to happen in. And Zack and I have fleshed it out from there.
What's been the most rewarding part of becoming internet celebrities. Also, who inspired red and blue? Thanks longtime fan <3. The most rewarding part is the poverty that keeps us entirely grounded. Animation costs a lot to make and we only get paid through views so there is quite a disparity. Even though Dick Figures is the most viewed animated web series at the moment (besides Happy Tree Friends) it is still just barely breaking even.
The most rewarding part, is creative freedom. Without big budgets or studios watching over us we can do whatever we want. This allows for much more original content than you'd normally see on cable networks. The internet is the FUTURE!
Personal favorite episode? We both really like Kitty Amazing, Bath Rhymes, and Role Playas.
Do Red and Blue live anywhere specifically, or is it like the Simpsons - some fictitious town? If so, what is the name of the town? Or is that going to be revealed in the Dick Figures Movie? We have kept their location pretty ambiguous so far, and they tend to hop around from episode to episode. We do reference real places in the world, but Red and Blue specifically live in a general "any-town".
What's the story behind Six Point Harness? And why is it called that? Apparently they tried to be called Five Point Harness but it was already taken. So they upped it to Six haha. They've been around for years now though and really built themselves up from a tiny operation into one of the best, most experienced, and thriving animation houses in LA. It has felt like a creative family from the beginning and it's a wonderful place to work and create new stuff for the world!
Who moderates the 'Red' Twitter page, is it Ed? (I'm the Irish dude who invited Red to go drinking) Link to imgur.com
Yeah, Ed here. I moderate the shit out of that page. And Red would gladly go drinking any time. Any place. As would Zack and I haha.
Dick Figures is the only show on MondoMedia that I like, so please keep up the great work! My question is, when you're explaining to someone that you work on a show called "Dick Figures" what is the usual reaction? xD. Hi! Thanks for watching! We run into this problem allllllllllllllllll the time. We usually get awkward laughter or weird faces, but no one is ever just like, "Okay, that sounds legit." So when we have to explain that we work on a show called Dick Figures, we always immediately have to follow it up with, "--it's not as bad as it sounds!"
Also... Could you draw red on the back of a large, epic-looking dragon, sword in hand, with blue on the ground with a miniature dragon, with a : face? This is for you... Link to imgur.com
You've already taken my money, so I hope you can answer a question too. You can check out more of our composer's, Nick Keller, music here (some non-DF stuff too): Link to soundcloud.com My brother just told me you can stream the song on his Soundcloud, which I posted below. We'll try to get another link of the song up so you can download it too for free.
My guess is if you weren't animators, you could be musicians. Is there a way to let us know which track is playing in annotations? Episode 16, Fang Angels, has a really sweet end credits song that seems like Daft Punk's Son of Flynn. And then the second Modern Warfare episode, when Stacy is showing her boobs, has a Muse-inspired etheral riff. What tracks are those, so I can throw money at them? That song from Fang Angels is called "Android Symphony" and is available on the Season 2 soundtrack (you can just buy that one song) here: Link to itunes.apple.com Unfortunately, that second song is not for sale because it's a super blatant rip off of a Muse song. We considered putting it on the soundtrack, but it's note for note the same, except with our composer, Nick Keller, singing. We're all big muse fans here so expect more music like that in the future!
Kool im a die hard spiderman fan, maybe you guys should create an episode where batman is kicking spiderman's ass??? just saying XD. Haha yeah we should call up the guys at Baman Piderman and combine forces, get those two dudes to duke it out!
That would be totally epic ass fuck!!!! ahahaha oh yea my other qusetion is did the purple fat chick, that Red always tells to go home, and Red ever had any kind of relationship with eachother???? All will be revealed in the movie... :]
Favorite TV show? GAME OF THRONES! Batman the Animated Series Firefly Regular Show BREAKING BAD.
How's it going?! I'm a big fan and look forward to every episode. You guys are awesome! One thing I always wondered is why do some characters have color names like Red and Blue, but the rest have normal/kinda-normal names like Stacy and Lord Tourettes? We thought it was funny that they all had colors until we met Stacy. Made her sound sluttier. Unless we named her Fuschia or something. Lavender. Could be a good spin off... Chick Figures mebbe? Lord Tourettes was a happy accident: we were introducing a bard character and wanted to do something different and just randomly came up with a little green man who sings and swears.
You guys are awesome and I love the show. So my questions are: Any chance we may see Dick Figures on T.V or even just longer episodes on Youtube? Also the movie I'm assuming will be on Youtube correct? Keep the laughs coming! Thanks!! For now we are planning to just keep Dick Figures on YouTube since we love the creative freedom that is allowed to us when we make shows for the web. TV is often too slow and too expensive for us to have the same amount of fun with it as we do now.
BUT we do want to tell longer Dick Figures stories, so that's where the movie comes into play. We both went to USC's film school so are very much into feature-length storytelling, so hopefully if the Kickstarter works we will be able to do that!
However until further notice, the movie is going to be available only to backers of the Kickstarter project.
I have to say... You are HILARIOUS. Where do you get the whole brotherly thing from? Is that how.you two interact with each other IRL? Also... Bonus for being redditors! Thanks!! Yeah Red and Blue, while pretty extreme exaggerations, are based on our own personalities, stupid conversations and weird stories that have happened to us. In fact, the drunken mess of an episode - Panda Hat - is more or less a word for word transcription of my (Ed's) 24th birthday. Zack sat me down on a chair to bring me a glass of water when my shit was starting to get sloppy only to come back to find me on the ground laughing, rolling around on broken glass and laughing. I still have a scar on my back.
Do you have individual scripts written for the 3 movie lengths or one script that you can condense/lengthen depending on what you end up with? We have one full story in mind but it's scaleable so that we can tell the same adventure no matter what length it is.
Are either of you two Sure_Ill_Draw_That? We are not, but we'll draw stuff for you here!
Can u draw a ninja red and a samraye blue ans the racoon as a kung foo master Ask, and ye shall receive... BOOM! Link to imgur.com
Oh! Can you draw a picture of my username?! Here you go! Thanks for the suggestion: Link to imgur.com
What are some of the ideas for a Dick Figures video game you mentioned? We are huge fans of both side-scrolling adventures like Double Dragon and TMNT, but also old-school 2D beatemups like Street Fighter. I think if we were ever to make one it would be an awesome combination of the two, with plenty of weapons, upgrades, explosions and avatar builders as you could handle.
What was your favorite episode that you made? Ed's favorites are Kitty Amazing and Bath Rhymes, it was awesome to get all the fans involved and see their take on our characters! Mine (Zack) is Role Playas, because I play D&D. EVERY. DAY.
What was the hardest video to make (or which one took you the longest)? The two hardest were also the two most epic: Attack of the Pwns and the most recent episode First Day of Cool. The first involved lots of special effects and post-production work, plus... actual colored backgrounds. And the second, as it is for the movie, we added tone and took a lot more care with every step of production. No matter how difficult the episodes are, we always enjoy making them.
Bath Rhymes turned out incredibly nice is now my new favorite song. Any other plans involving Dick Figures-based songs or even a potential album? Thanks! Glad you like it! We have three albums on iTunes for the show's soundtracks and a few singles, but there is a new single heading your way soon... perhaps another music video?
I'm eager, interested, and a little bit aroused... Us too......
Describe to me the time you lost your virginity. How was it? It was awkward.
How was yours?
Oh, two more questions: Will there be some raccoon centered episodes? Like seeing how he received the ability to talk. And will there be more zombie based episodes? The Raccoon is actually a VERY important part of DICK FIGURES: THE MOVIE so we're holding out to tell his story there... you love zombies, we love zombies, as does everyone else so yes, there will be more zombies. Plus, Dingleberry doesn't really seem to die does he so I think he's an All-Time-Zombie.
What is your favorite burrito place? There is a tiny taco stand in Los Angeles called Cactus Mexican Food. Sounds super stereotypical, but is really authentic. We go there too often. Our stomach's wouldn't agree. But our butts would.

Any plans for some projects outside of youtube or other than dick figures? We do have other projects in the works. We can't talk about them just yet, but you will be hearing about them soon.
If you wanna see some of the other work we've done you can check out our website (music videos, commercials, animated shorts): Link to remochoso.com
Have you thought about re-using the time machine? going to different times? that could be a movie itself, Red and Blues excellent adventure??? We haven't thought about another time-machine episode to be honest. Time Travel episodes/movies are normally tricky because they interrupt the time-space continuum of the show. But for Dick Figures... that doesn't matter! We SHOULD try another one. Good idea!
Hey, guys! HUGE female fan of Dick Figures. The first episode I ever saw was 'Role Playas' because I was looking up random D&D videos since I had just started a new D&D campaign. I fell in love immediately and watched all your other episodes that same day. Pretty sure I spammed your videos all over my friends' Facebook pages. Lord Tourettes is definitely one of my all time favorite characters. Every episode he's a part of becomes an instant favorite. What was your inspiration behind Lord Tourettes? Hey! Thanks for watching and all the DF love. We're really happy you dig the show and are showing it around to everyone - that's really important to the show's growth and means a lot to us. Lord Tourettes was the result of a conversation about having a bard character. We thought we needed some whimsical poetry reading someone in our middle ages episode Role Playas, but wanted to do something kind of weird and out of the ordinary. I'm pretty sure Zack just said, "what if he has tourettes syndrome" and we both started singing poetry and screaming curse words. And thus was born LT!
Do you read fan forums and comments on videos to get ideas for future episodes? A lot of the episodes are a result of us getting tipsy in the conference room and scribbling stupid ideas down on note pads, but we definitely read through all the comments and see what people are saying. That's one of the reasons we love working on YouTube so much is that we have a much more direct connection with the fans and can see their reactions way faster than a TV audience.
Hello, I would love to know if the kind of music you use in the show its the only genre of music you like, do you like rock music or indie bands? id love to know them! Ed: I'm a humongous dubstep fan irl too, it gets me up in the morning better than coffee. But being a musician on the side I'm definitely into other music and other bands for sure. Recent favorites have been Starfucker and R.A.C. But there will also always be a special place in my heart for Third Eye Blind and LMFAO.
Zack: Bruce Springsteen. Muse. Any score by John Williams. Right now, listening to The Shins - Port of Morrow, Bruce Springsteen - Wrecking Ball. GOT soundtrack :D.
What are your favorite movies/shows? Favorite Movies: Jurassic Park, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Inception, E.T. Favorite Shows: Game of Thrones, Regular Show, Futurama, Batman the Animated Series, Breaking Bad.
How much money do you hope to make with the kickstarte how much is enough? Also where and how will you air the movie? We hope to raise at least $250,000 which allows us to make a 30 minute Dick Figures special. The movie's plot is REALLY REALLY COOL and we're dying to make it so hopefully we can raise that much! For now, the movie is Kickstarter exclusive so the only way to see the movie is to back the project. Hopefully, in the future, we can release the movie on other platforms like Netflix and Hulu, etc.
My 40 something mother never laughs at anything on the internet. But then I showed her Mr Tourettes looking for his hat and now she shouts "Your mother must be SO PROUD!" from time to time, and laughs to herself. For that, I thank you. Where do you get those lines from? Do they come naturally or do you sit down and write beforehand? :D. Hahahaha That's amazing. Please tell your mom that the guys over at Dick Figures salute her. Honestly most of the stupid crap that we put into the show just pops into our head while we're writing. We write each season all at once in a few weeks before we start animating them, and every time we write we make sure we have a few bottles of beer on hand. Don't tell your mom that part.
